41. Tandoori Kitchen, Lafayette, Colorado
For a taste of the Himalayas in Colorado, put Tandoori Kitchen at the top of your list. The restaurant serves Indian and Nepalese cuisine, including made-from-scratch “lightly crispy and tasty” Vegetable Samosas (fried pastries stuffed with potatoes, peas, and spices), Thukpa (Himalayan noodle soup), and Himalayan Sweet Orange Chicken (coated in deep-fried chickpea batter and served with a sweet orange sauce). Try it all at the popular all-you-can-eat lunch buffet (Tuesdays through Fridays), featuring favorites like “phenomenal” Chicken Tikka Masala as well as plenty of vegan dishes. Top vegan choices include Aloo Zeera (curry fried potatoes with cumin and coriander) and a “sooo good” Chana Masala (spiced chickpeas in tomato gravy with coriander).
Meat lovers will enjoy savoring “the most tender tandoori kebabs” made with your choice of chicken, lamb, or shrimp (or all 3 in the mixed grill). Each has been marinated in a special seasoning layered with turmeric, ginger, and garlic and then grilled and smoked in a traditional tandoori clay oven.
Most popular/most photographed dishes: Chicken Tikka Masala; Tandoori Chicken; Saag Paneer (spinach cooked in garlic, onion, tomato, and cream with paneer cheese); Rogan Josh curry (chicken, lamb, or vegetables with garlic, ginger, and other spices).
Yelpers say: “This is our favorite Indian restaurant, hands down! I’ve eaten at many Indian restaurants in many cities, and the flavor and quality here beats everything else in the area. The staff is also very kind, prompt and accurate. I highly recommend!” —Kelly R.
